The Process
Every Again Again notebook begins as something forgotten—old notes, discarded paper, fabric scraps—waiting for a second life. With a little creativity, patience, and handcrafting, we transform them into one-of-a-kind, recycled notebooks that are designed to be used, loved, and eventually remade all over again.
Here’s how the magic happens:
Collecting & Preparing the Paper
It all starts with gathering materials -old letters, packaging, paper scraps and anything else that can be saved from the bin. Most of the paper comes from mine or my family’s waste, with occasional donations from my local community. We carefully sort through paper into colours, removing staples, tape or anything that won’t break down easily.
Turning Scraps into Pulp
Next, the paper is soaked and blended into a thick, pulpy mixture. Unlike mass-produced recycled paper we use no dye or additives - the final colour is purely a result of the paper we’ve collected. Colours always look deeper when wet, but as it dries it lightens into something unique.
Hand-Pulling Each Sheet
Using a traditional paper-making frame, sheets of paper are carefully pulled from the pulp, one by one. No two are ever the same! Some pages end up thicker and more textured, others have subtle colour variations, all depending on the original paper source. These quirks are what make handmade paper so special. Once formed, the sheets are pressed and left to dry naturally.
Folding, Cutting & Preparing the Signatures
Once dry, the pages are folded and cut into signatures (sections of pages that will be bound together). This is when you can really start to feel the different thickness and texture giving each notebook its own distinct personality.
Binding by Hand
Each notebook is stitched together using a strong, traditional stitches making it both durable and flexible. Hand-sewn binding allows the book to lie completely flat when open - perfect for sketching, journaling or planning your next big idea!
The Finishing Touches - Unique Cover
For the cover, we use recycled fabric - sometimes old clothes, sometimes from offcuts and unwanted materials. A natural handmade glue is used to attach the fabric to the cover boards - sticking to the Again Again ethos of sustainability and simplicity. Every cover is unique, when you order a custom notebook we will send you a selection of material to choose from!
Made to be Used, Loved and Remade Again
Because our notebooks are made from recycled materials, they are entirely biodegradable. When you’ve filled yours with ideas, sketches, and stories, it can be recycled or even remade into something new!
Each Again Again notebook is a little piece of slow-made, sustainable craftsmanship - a reminder that imperfection is beautiful and that creativity should not be mass-produced.
